Description of Purpose
THIS TEACH-IN IS TO INCREASE THE KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS OF THE BAY AREA AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY ABOUT PROSTATE HEALTH, AND PROSTATE CANCER, THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY DETECTION FROM ANNUAL SCREENS. AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN ARE DISPROPORTIONALY DIAGNOSED AND DIE OF THE DISEASE MUCH MORE THAT OTHER ETHNICITIES. THIS TEACH-IN IS A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO REACH THE COMMUNITY.

Objective/Goals
TEACH THE AUDIENCE WHAT THE PROSTATE IS, WHERE IT IS, WHAT DISEASES IT CAN HAVE, CURRENT STATISTICS ABOUT THE DISEASE WITH ETHNICITIES AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES. IMPOWER AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN THROUGH INCREASING THEIR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PROSTATE HEALTH AND CANCER

Birthday Observance Committee, Inc. is a
non-profit organization founded by Rev.
Cecil Williams, of Glide Church in San Francisco,
California, and the King Family. Its primary
mission is to coordinate and plan events centered
around the national holiday in Dr. King's honor,
celebrated on the third Monday of each year. 
From the beginning, the San Francisco celebration
events have been among the largest in the
United States.
